The Persian cat is one of the most popular feline breeds in the world, being the fourth most beloved according to the Cat Fancier's Association. This cat, originally from ancient Persia (present-day Iran), arrived in Italy in 1620 and has since excelled as one of the most beloved pets.

How many types of Persian cats are there?
Although there have been recent variations of the breed, the Persian cat is one of the oldest in the world. Its history is not fully known, but it is estimated to have originated in ancient Persian, located in modern Iran. However, it was not until the 17th century that his pedigree was first registered in Italy, before spreading throughout Europe.

1. Solid
We will start the list of types of Persian cats with the felines grouped within the category of solid colors. These felines must have a uniform mantle, from the root, and must be free of marks or shadows. They can be white, black, blue, chocolate, lilac, red or cream.
In this category the eyes of Persian cats are only copper. However, in the case of pristine white Persian cats we can observe up to three eye colors: copper, deep blue and a combination of both, as they can also present.
2. Silver & Golden
In this category of types of Persian cats we find those of chinchilla, gold and silver. They are probably the ones that show the most undefined colors of all Persian cats that exist. The color is completely white, with a slight dark hue and variable in the face, limbs, tail and body.
The eyes of the silver and gold can be green or blue-green.
3. Smoke & Shaded
In this group of Types of Persian Cats we observe felines that, at rest, look solid in color. However, as the mantle opens, observing a kind of "smoke" in the mantle that can be of different colors, such as black, blue, cream, red, smoked care, smoky blue and smoked cream. This mantle change appears around six to eight weeks of life.
The eyes are always coppery.
4. Tabby
Following our list of types of Persian cats we find the tabbies, known to be the most extroverted of all Persian cats. We find three patterns: the classic, the mackerel and the striped. The colors that are recognized are silver, silver blue, red, chocolate, blue, cream, cameo and cameo cream.
They mostly show bright copper eyes, although the silver variety may also have hazelnut or green.
5. Particular
In the particular category we find the Persian cats "tortoise shell", cream blue, "chocolate shell" and lilac cream. There is also the care, which are black with scattered spots around the face. All of them have bright copper eyes.
6. Bicolor
In the category of bicolor Persian cats we find calco, bicolor, smoke and white cats or "tabby" and white. They show a characteristic pattern on the head and limbs, plus a maximum of two spots of color on the body. They can combine colors black, blue, red, cream, chocolate and lilac, all with white.
All show bright copper eyes, except for silver-striped Persians, which can also show them green or hazelnut.

7. Himalaya
We finish our list with the himalayas, probably one of the most popular and appreciated types of Persian cats in the world. This pattern of the mantle can be displayed in different colors: chocolate, gray, lilac, blue and red. However, these colors are those that appear on the face mask and limbs, which combine with the different shades of the body, which encompass from white to beige.
These Persian cats were developed from the crossing of Persian cats and Siamese cats, thus obtaining the coloration of the Siamese with the morphology of the Persians, fruit of genetic selection. Still, it took years to be recognized by the various feline federations.

How to care for a Persian cat?

Persians are long-haired cats, also known for their fondness for daily grooming. However, those who are considering adopting a Persian cat should know the importance of daily brushing, otherwise the feline may risk the accumulation of hairballs in the stomach, which can cause various health problems in the feline.
